Coming from the descendants of black sub-Saharian slaves, the cult of geniuses (djiins) has spread to the Maghreb under various names. Diwan in Algeria, Gnawa in Morocco.
Simoh Bouchra and Boualem Fedel bring this repertoire into a contemporary dimension, using new tools and new afroelectro sounds, and to allow the “Maghrebian” identity to embrace modernity while respecting the authenticity of texts and values, such as the transmission, sharing and universality of musical language.
With this fusion Djamra’s ambition is to build a new African identity where music allows future generations to adopt new traditions. Within this society in full political and social upheaval, new styles emerge. Djamra is part of this new wave #afroelectro.
